Calculator Use
Graphing, scientificand multi-function computers are permitted or are allowed for certain practices (r) tests. If it is not specifically stated that a calculator is allowed for a specific test, calculators may not be used.
Test takers are not permitted to use calculators in a shared manner.
Tests That Do Not Permit Use of a Calculator
In generally, unless explicitly stated that a certain kind of calculator is allowed or required for a specific test, calculators should not be used for the practice test.
Tests That Permit the Use of a Calculator
You may utilize a four-function or scientific calculator for your Middle School: Content Knowledge (5146) test, although you're not required to use it. You are required to bring your own calculator to the testing centre. One is not provided in the test center. A graphing calculator is not allowed in this test.
Types of CalculatorsThat Are Not Permitted
The following items are not allowed on Praxis test:
- Portable/handheld computers or laptops
- Electronic writing pads
- Models with pen-input/stylus/touch-screen capability
- Calculators on phones and watches as well as on other electronic devices
- Models with QWERTY or other alphabetic keyboards as part of the hardware or software
- Models with printers
- Models that produce noise or "talk"
- Designs that will require an electrical outlet
- Models with the ability to connect to internet or have the capability of wireless connectivity or Bluetooth (r) capability
- Models with a camera that can scan or scan, as well as the ability to record or play digital audio/video
In addition, use of hardware peripherals is not allowed.
Tests That Provide an On-screen Calculator
Calculators provided by test takers are not allowed in Praxis test which have calculators on screen.
On-Screen Scientific Calculator
The following practice tests use an onscreen scientific calculator. The tests are based on the TX-30XS MultiView(tm) calculator. There is a tutorial available so you can get used to the on-screen calculator before your test day.

On-Screen Graphing Calculator
This set of Praxis tests have an onscreen graphing calculator. The tests utilize calculators such as the TI-84 Plus CE calculator. A tutorial is available to ensure you can practice using the calculator that is on your screen prior to test day.
